In the language strategy use category of listening strategy, I found the strategy of listening to talk shows on the radio, watch TV shows, or see movies in the target language to be useful because when watching a movie in the target language I can have subtitles in English so when the characters in the movie are saying something in Japanese I can study the English meaning of it and write it down on a piece of paper.
In the vocabulary strategy use inventory I think that writing new words out into meaningful sentence would be helpful along with reviewing them every day so that I don’t forget them so that the information is reinforced into my brain. Another trick that I think is useful is picturing the way the word is spelled inside my mind that way I can have a mental image that will help me remember new words. In the speaking strategy category I think that seeking out opportunities to speak with native speakers is helpful. For example, speaking with International students from Japan. Another thing that I think is effective in doing is using synonyms or words that have the same meaning to the word I am trying to use in order to express an idea. In the reading strategy use inventory I think that reading in the target language is useful. Reading in the target language would help me learn how to spell words correctly which is a issue that I have since I am not exposed to how a lot of words are spelled since I am always writing sentences in class but hardly reading a lot of them because I am mostly taught on writing and creating. In the writing strategy use is planning out in advance how to write any academic papers that way I will be able to have more practice in writing any academic papers and so when the time comes to actually write one I will have a easier time trying to write. Another strategy that I find helpful is writing personal texts or journals in the target language. This will help me to be able to get a lot of writing practice along with spelling. When it comes to the speaking strategy use I found some strategies of finding a native speaker of the target language to speak to in that target language and practicing speaking to them while making some mistakes in the target language and having them correct me on the mistakes that I make. I also found that speaking out allowed some certain expression in the target language would also help me in speaking it because then I can learn how to use a good use my tone instead of sounding too mono toned when I am speaking that way I will not sound like a robot when I am speaking and can add some emotions to my expressions.

A cultural strategy that I would use when I am in another culture that is different from the one that I am normally used to is figuring out what cultural values might be involved when I encounter a conflict or when something goes wrong. For example, if I end up offending someone I would ask them how I offended them or what I did wrong. A second strategy would be to counter stereotypes that are used against people of my own country by using cultural values to explain them. For example, when Americans are being stereotyped for being aggressive because they speak out their mind or opinions about an issue I will explain that it is part of their cultural values in order to solve social conflicts which is our way of bringing peace. The last strategy that I would use is think about how different cultures might view things in different ways. In the culture learning strategies for the pre departure strategy I think that the strategy of making distinctions between behavior that is personal (unique to the person), cultural (representative of the person's culture), and universal (shared by humans) is useful so that I won’t get emotionally stressed or upset by taking things too personal from people. Another strategy would be to join clubs or organizations to meet people who have the same interests as me. When joining a club it can allow me to feel more comfortable in meeting these new people because when you are joined in a club or organizations it forces you to mingle with the people of these clubs and it forces you to work with them along with making you be able to feel more comfortable talking to them since you will be seeing these people more often and you are all part of this inside group that way you are not just an outsider to them. Through talking and mingling with these people from your club you will be able to learn more about them and their culture as well. Observing the people from my host country very carefully can also be a helpful. For example, by observing the people from my host country very carefully I can learn some of the social rules that are expected to be followed such as when everyone on the train don't talk and stay quiet and if everyone on the train stays quiet it must mean that we are not allowed to talk on the train so by copying what others do can be helpful on knowing what social rules to follow when your are in public.
While doing the LESCANT project I learned how to critically observe my environment and surroundings. For example, when it came to language I learned how to learn more about a country and the different languages that that country speak and the types of people who live in that country when it comes to race. For example, in Germany I was looking at a lot of the clothing but when I looked at the clothing tags a lot of the tags had the sizes in both the turkish language and the German language so that told me that a lot of the people who lived there are mostly Turkish citizens and German citizens and so the country speak two languages German and Turkish. What I learned in the environment part of the LESCANT project was that I learned how to look at my surrounding environment and how to tell what type of species or things I expect to see around my surrounding environment. I also learned what social organization is and how I can distinguish it and find it wherever I go and how to react to a social organizational type of situation. When it came to context I learned how to. In authority I learned that authority is not just a person figure but that it can also be a sign or powerpoint having power of authority. When it comes to nonverbal I learned how to look at the way how people from different cultures can speak in a nonverbal way. When it comes to the time part in LESCANT I learned how to look at the different ways in which people from other cultures may spend their time doing.
The reason why I chose to study the amae concept is because I thought it was interesting how the Japanese people have a different type of relationships with people depending on who they are and they act and behave in a certain way round those certain people while in the U.S. we do not do that and we treat strangers the same way we treat everyone else who we are close to because Americans are more opened up towards people while the Japanese seem more closed off.
What I want to study about this amae concept is why do they Japanese have this certain status rules towards every different relationship and how do they behave and act towards each specific relationship such as towards a teacher, friend, brother, and parents and how each relationship is treated differently. I want to study this concept because I want to know some of the Japanese cultural rules in society on how you are supposed to act and behave around certain strangers or around people you work with such as a teacher or your boss at work. Some of the things I would like to do in Japan is eat all of the variety of Japanese food there that I had never tried before along with going to the temples and purchasing a amulet from there. What I plan on doing in order to prepare for this is saving up lots of money through financial aid and purchasing a phone with wifi that has google maps so that I can find my way around the country without getting lost. Some of the things that I fear is getting lost and not being able to find my way back to my dorm if I go out to the grocery store to buy groceries that is a little distance away. I also fear getting homesick and not being able to pass my classes from not being able to understand the class instructions very clearly because it will all be taught in Japanese. Another thing that I fear is loosing my luggage at the airport if I have to take a connecting flight.
